Strengthening capacities to control emissions and releases of mercury in Peru

To support Peru in meeting its obligations under the Minamata Convention and in controlling national emissions and releases of mercury, this project will train staff of national institutions in quantification and reporting of emissions and releases of mercury, put in place a procedure to update national mercury emissions and releases inventory, and will support the drafting of a national plan for emissions and releases control for stakeholder review. In addition, the project will raise stakeholder awareness of environmentally sound interim storage of mercury and disposal of mercury.

Objectives

The overall objective of this project is to strengthen the country’s institutional capacity to control national emissions and releases of mercury and contribute to identification of priority actions to address emissions and releases under the Minamata Convention.
